Susan Bevin

Susan is a specialist litigator acting in all manner of litigation disputes for our clients.

Her work includes insurance law, insolvency, property and construction litigation and various other disputes including significant courtroom litigation for nationally recognised clients.

Susan has experience advising on a vast range of insurance issues including professional indemnity and negligence actions, declination advice, policy interpretation and analysis and advice on recent decisions or legislative changes.

Another area in which Susan regularly practises is insolvency, and her experience includes advice in receiverships (including the validity of appointment), voidable transactions, liquidations and creditors compromises.

Susan also has a particular interest and experience in construction law. She acts for contractors, developers, design professionals and private owners on a range of matters including advising on construction contracts (including standard forms such as NZS 3910 and 3915) and opinion work in respect of general construction issues, the Construction Contracts Act 2002 and leaky building cases.

Susan has extensive advocacy experience before the Courts, in arbitrations and in special tribunals including the Weathertight Homes Tribunal. She also regularly represents clients in adjudications under the Construction Contracts Act 2002 and has acted in cases that have influenced New Zealand construction law; for example Bills v Arnold Jensen (2005) Limited (High Court, Christchurch CIV-2008-409-1349, 10/10/08, Fogarty J).
